International Rules Day at Magpie Sports Club!
Inner West Magpies vs. Penrith Gaels
November 25th saw Magpie Sports Club host the 2nd annual International Rules Day at Picken Oval, bringing together the community for a day of riveting football clashes between Aussies and The Irish.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the dual showdown between Penrith Gaels and Inner West Magpies, featuring both men’s and women’s teams. The International Rules format, a hybrid of Australian rules football and Gaelic football, provided a unique and thrilling experience for players and spectators alike.
In a fierce show of sportsmanship, the women of Penrith Gaels faced off against the Inner West Magpies, showcasing their skill and determination. The match unfolded with precision, highlighting the talents of both teams. In the end, the Penrith Gaels emerged victorious.
The men’s game followed suit, with Penrith Gaels and Inner West Magpies going head-to-head in a display of athleticism and strategic prowess. Ultimately, the Men’s Penrith Gaels team also emerged triumphant.
Beyond the thrilling games, the day featured a range of activities to keep attendees entertained. A barbecue sizzled with delicious treats, complemented by a fully stocked bar that kept everyone refreshed and hydrated throughout the day. Live music filled the air as the band Strawberries and Cabbage took the stage at Magpie Sports Club, creating a lively ambiance from 3 pm to 7 pm.
Adding an extra layer to the excitement, the AFL Grand Final Premiership Cup and Collingwood team players were on hand for an early afternoon meet-and-greet and autograph session where fans had the opportunity to connect with their sporting heroes.
The 2nd year of International Rules at Magpie Sports Club was a great success, and we extend our gratitude to both the Inner West Magpies and Penrith Gaels, along with their supporters, for contributing to this exceptional day.
Congratulations to the Penrith Gaels for taking the top spot in both matches, we look forward to the event reuniting in 2024 for another round of spectacular matches – Let’s cross our fingers for better weather next time!
